Kieron, founder & director

After leaving school in 1994, I completed a TEFL qualification and spent some time teaching abroad as a Gap student; I then graduated from Birmingham University with first class honours in 1998 (English/History). I spent some time working in homeless hostels after university, before completing my PGCE in 2002; I then taught at Abertillery comprehensive for eight years, teaching Humanities and Drama at KS3 as well as English and History to GCSE level. I took on the role of Essential Skills/ Literacy co-ordinator in 2008.

In 2011 I left Abertillery to launch Top Marks Tutors. I have successfully tutored a wide range of clients since then, from primary level (currently my youngest pupil is in Year 3) to adult learners, including TESOL students. I have detailed knowledge of current curriculum requirements, gained from my examining /moderating work as well as my teaching experience, including GCSE, A-Level as well as the Adult Literacy Core Curriculum. Recently, I have worked at Rhymney College, before starting at Cardiff and the Vale College last year, teaching Essential Skills (Literacy). I also work as an examiner/moderator for various exam boards, including the WJEC, and I write Functional Skills exams. I have three children, aged eight, seven and three, and have enjoyed teaching them to read as much as I enjoy teaching at Secondary/College level.
